And now let's revisit Alexis Goring, author of Stories and Songs of Faith: My Journey with God (Soaring Beyond, an imprint of Winged Publications, April 2020).
Alexis A. Goring is a passionate writer with a degree in Print Journalism and an MFA in Creative Writing. She loves the art of storytelling and hopes that her stories will connect readers with the enduring, forever love of Jesus Christ.
Please tell us a random thing we might not know about you.
While lost with my friend and her fiancé on the cobblestone streets of Italy, we stumbled upon a beautiful bridal shop and in the front window display was my DREAM wedding dress (at that time)! I took a photo with it and my friend’s fiancé said, “That’s your wedding dress!” However, I was not engaged at the time so there was no need to buy it.
One never knows what the future holds...
My devotional book is filled with stories and songs to encourage you on your journey with God. These are treasures of truth that God used to uplift me and teach me more about Him, His grace, His mercy and His Love for humankind.
What a great idea! Why will readers enjoy your book?
Readers – especially those who are music lovers – will enjoy my devotional book because the messages within are inspired by God and aimed at their hearts. Reading this book will be heartwarming, encouraging and helpful for each person who wants to learn more about God’s love.
I love the idea of having the applicable song in your head all day after reading the devotional and listening to the song.
Writing devotionals comes easier to me than writing fiction stories. I don’t struggle when writing nonfiction/devotionals but I do struggle with the technique of “showing” vs. “telling” when writing fiction stories. I think part of the reason why is because of my training as a print journalist where I learned to write stories that are “precise and concise.”
What is the last book you read that moved you? How did it affect you?
The last book I read that moved me was Always, by Sarah Jio. It affected me because the story was so beautifully told and it inspired me to hope that true love always wins.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on a Contemporary Romance (fiction) story about the best friends of two of my favorite main characters from a previously published book that I wrote. I will showcase their budding romance that neither of them expected to happen.

Our church provides Our Daily Bread each month. I enjoy the different faith stories by various authors. Since we are not physically attending church right now with Covid, I’m reading Be Still and Let Your Nail Polish Dry. These ladies have some great insights and stories to tell.
I have been thinking that reading a devotional each day might help my frame of mind. I lost my mother in March right as everything shut down so it has definitely been a very rough time.

Dear Gail H.,
I'm so glad that your church provides Our Daily Bread! I enjoy reading that publication too! :)
The book that you're reading now sounds delightful!
I hope that you'll have a chance to read my devotional book too.
Take care and God bless you.
Sincerely,
Alexis A. Goring (the author)
Dear Melanie,
I am sorry to hear about the loss of your Mom! :(
I am praying for God to send His Holy Spirit to comfort you in ways that only HE can.
I hope that you will get a chance to read my devotional book and that it will encourage your heart.
Love,
Alexis A. Goring (the author)
Gail, I'm with you--I use Daily Bread every morning, the moment I get up. It's a great way to start the day. I have the app on my phone. I'm so glad you're reading Be Still! Are you doing the hardback or the journal version. I go back and read that, along with Delight Yourself in the Lord Even on Bad Hair Days and His Grace is Sufficient...Decaf is Not. When time passes, it's like reading them anew!
Melanie, I'm so sorry you've had to deal with the loss of your mom in the midst of this lockdown disorientation. That loss is hard enough in "normal" times. I would highly recommend a daily devotional. I've found them an excellent way to start one's day--there can never be enough good ones, in my opinion.
