DiAnn Mills and Free Books!

Two FBI agents seek a twenty-two-year-old male suspected of murdering a judge by injecting a deadly dose of rattlesnake venom, but a distraught mother and a priest lead the agents to uncover the workings of a plot designed to destroy thousands of people.

Before we visit with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Melanie Dobson's time-slip novel, Memories of Glass, is:

And now let's talk with novelist DiAnn Mills, author of the romantic suspense novel, Fatal Strike (Tyndale, September 2019).

DiAnn Mills is a bestselling author who believes her readers should expect an adventure. She is a storyteller and creates action-packed, suspense-filled novels to thrill readers. Her titles have appeared on the CBA and ECPA bestseller lists; won two Christy Awards; and been finalists for the RITA, Daphne Du Maurier, Inspirational Readers’ Choice, and Carol award contests.

DiAnn is a founding board member of the American Christian Fiction Writers, a member of Advanced Writers and Speakers Association, Mystery Writers of America, Sisters in Crime, and International Thriller Writers. She is the director of the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference, Mountainside Marketing Retreat, and Mountainside Novelist Retreat with social media specialist Edie Melson where she continues her passion for helping other writers be successful.

DiAnn speaks to various groups and teaches writing workshops around the country.

My goodness, what a resume you have, DiAnn!

Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.

I’m a very picky eater, mostly vegetarian.

Ah, to be a picky eater. I wouldn't mind liking a little less food.

Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Fatal Strike.

There’s a killer on the loose in Galveston, targeting law enforcement officials and using a fatal injection of snake venom to take them down. Authorities have reasons to believe the Veneno gang is behind the hits, and FBI Agents Leah Riesel and Jon Colbert team up to track down those responsible. Their best lead is an eyewitness who identifies a young man dumping the third body on a church doorstep. But their suspect has gone into hiding, and those closest to him are reluctant to reveal anything that might help investigators find him.

As Leah and Jon check connections among the victims and dig deeper into motives, they discover appearances may be deceiving. Someone is desperate to keep their secrets hidden, and Leah and Jon must face their greatest fears in order to stop the next fatal strike.

That's an exciting and intense premise, especially when coupled with your one-sentence summary at the top of the post. And I love the cover, by the way.

What is it about Leah Riesel that will make your readers care about her?

FBI Special Agent Leah Riesel has dedicated her life to keeping people safe. She’s a sniper with FBI SWAT and a private person. Her estranged family lives in New York City, and she desperately wants a relationship with them.

Who is one of your favorite mainstream authors?

Joel Rosenberg. He creates stories that allow me to experience characters who walk through life with purpose, meaning, and sacrifice. Every Joel Rosenberg book is a lesson in master craftsmanship and causes me to lose time and space during his exciting stories.

I've mentioned this in the past, but maybe not here. Years ago I attended the same church as Joel and his wife and kids in the Washington, DC area. This was shortly before he published his first novel, The Last Jihad, and he and his wife were in the Young Marrieds Bible study class with us. He was a humble man, and I had no idea he was so gifted and insightful. You just never know.

What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?

Run Away by Harlan Coben is about a man desperate to find his runaway daughter. Throughout the story, the reader feels the father’s unconditional love. His search in unsavory places proves he will not give up until he finds her.

What are you working on now?

I just finished a romantic suspense titled Airborne. An FBI agent boards a plane for Salzburg, Austria for a much-needed vacation and to make decisions about her future. Her husband has asked for a divorce, and he doesn’t know she’s pregnant. Two hours into the flight, several people on board begin showing symptoms of a deadly virus.

We'll definitely have to watch for that release, DiAnn!

I don't like books to be predictable! These types of books I want there to be twists I wasn't expecting so it keeps me on my toes! lol

Books that are unforgettable to me are those that pulled at my emotions. Usually they are true stories where I would be crying one minute, the next laughing through my tears and then so happy the way the story played out. Of course many times those type of books are the only one that author has written but sometimes their stories continue on. somi19ad (at) aol (dot) com

I read this book and enjoyed it immensely (even though I hate the thoughts of snakes of any kind). I posted my review of the book on various sites. I'm grateful our public library carries has large section of Christian fiction, but I'd love to own my own copy of this book. DiAnn incorporates practically everything into her stories that make them unforgettable for me: suspense, action, a strong faith element with great life lessons, strong memorable characters (not always necessarily the hero and heroine), and great settings. Some romance is okay as well but not an absolute requirement for me.

I like books that either make me stop and think about something or teach me a bit about history. Sometimes fictionalized accounts about current events are enjoyable.

Hi, I loved reading this author interview and the book review. The book sounds very intriguing and like a very good page turner! I really love the cover! Thank you for sharing this. I like books that keep me turning the pages, I love mysteries and thrillers that i can not put down and keep me on my toes! I also like books that have a good ending, I don't really care for endings that you don't know what really happened or what is to come, unless of course there is a sequel to it. Have a Great week. God Bless you. aliciabhaney@sbcglobal.net aliciabhaney(at)sbcglobal(dot)net

Nothing makes me want to read another book by an author like that feeling of satisfaction at a well-written ending, coupled with disappointment that the story is over. Those feelings drive me to find something else by the author! Some of you have mentioned twists and strong character development. I love those things as well. When I read a thriller or suspense novel, I'm constantly trying to figure everything out, but I'm a little disappointed if I do. I like to be wrong, lol.

If the characters are real, true to life I’ll keep reading and search for more books by that author. I’ve almost asked for prayer for a character but caught myself just in time, LOL!

I enjoy suspense that keeps me guessing. Characters that are easy to relate to and a well written story keep me reading books from the author.
