A Midnight Clear and Free Books!

For Maddie Travers, there's something weighty about the midnight hour. She's no Cinderella, but for better or worse, her life has a way of changing after that twelfth stroke.

Before we look at this week's giveaway, I want to announce that the winner of the free e-copy of The Sleuth's Miscalculation, by Kimberly Rose Johnson, is:

dachsr4me@...

Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.

And now I want to introduce you to my newly released comedic romance, A Midnight Clear (Winged Publications, August 2018).

A bit more about the story: When she attends a Washington, D.C. dinner party thrown by friends far wealthier than she, writer Maddie Travers is distracted by internal debates. Should she move back to D.C.? Should she seek work she might find more fulfilling? She meets the appealing “regular guy,” Dom Sebastiani, at the party and consequently wonders whether she’s ready to seek romance again. So many decisions! At the stroke of midnight, a shocking turn of events sets Maddie on a path that holds at least as many questions for her as it does answers.

The story involves touches of intrigue, comedy, romance, and hope. Maddie is a young woman in flux who struggles between a desire for professional success and the hope of making a meaningful impact on her fellow human beings. In the midst of that conflict is her attraction to two different men in varying degrees of eligibility. Life is not always clear, even at midnight.

The e-book can be purchased online using the following button:

My question for you:

A lot of my choices were decided for me inadvertently otherwise I think I would have made many mistakes. One of the ones was a pull from God. I was tired and was deciding whether to visit my maternal grandmother that night or the next morning. I’d almost decided to wait until I felt I needed to go that night. When I got there we sat and talked for a while. My grandmother got up to go to the kitchen and fell in the floor. She had many fainting spells over the years and I thought that was what was happening. I tried to revive her but couldn’t. I found out later she’d had a massive heart attack and there was nothing I could have done. God knew what was ahead and didn’t want her to be alone. My mother would have never gotten over it if she had.

this sounds like a wonderful book. When I was a senior in high school, seniors who took history with a specific teacher and passed with high grades had the chance to go on a trip for two months with her from Illinois to the East Coast stopping at historical sites. At the time it was a huge question. I loved history and would love to go and experience these places from the teachers perspective. But at the same time it was so totally out of my comfort zone, there is no way i wanted to travel on a bus and sleep and eat with a bunch of students. Traveling so far away from home. No cell phones at the time, only pay phones. LOL I have always been a bit of a huge introvert. Well, I decided to go and had the best time of my life. Made some life long friends and learned so much about our history in the US. I don't regret it.

I'll make this short and sweet. After losing my job at the age of 61, I had to choose between two jobs. One was in the profession I'd been in for years and the other was in a totally different industry. I chose the riskier one, new industry. Best choice for me, especially since the other company was bought out and my position would have been eliminated.

God is faithful and has allowed me to be in a positive environment with terrific bosses who encourage all of us.

As you know, I love reading your books. Thanks for sharing your creative gift with us.

What amazing stories.

Gail, of course yours is horribly sad, but it's satisfying to know you were there for your grandmother AND you never had to deal with the guilt you might have felt, had you put off visiting her! You were with her during that important time.

And Lori, I loved the way your story turned out! I was expecting you to say why it was best you DIDN'T go, but your choice and the outcome are far more rewarding.

For me, I had planned to remain on the East Coast for several more years before moving out to the West Coast to live closer to my kids and grandkids. My daughter suggested I move out far earlier and live with them while I got myself set up, so I wouldn't spend those years away from all of them. For a big long-term planner like me, it was hard to change my plans. But I have no doubts it was the right thing to do! (I just hope they feel that way, too, lol.)

Oh, Paula, I took so long to write my comment, you got in there before me! How wonderful that your new job turned out to be the better choice! It's somewhat frightening to change industries. I'm so glad you chose as you did!

I had to make a big decision when I was 49 and life is more peaceful. Also when I quit my job at 64, life is more peaceful. I feel like I made the right decisions. (lemonade050) (at) hotmail (dotcom)

Brenda, I had one of those making-life-more-peaceful decisions thrust upon me, and it wasn’t an easy experience for me or my kids. But God has blessed it and stayed with us through it and beyond it! I’m so glad to hear about your experience with retirement. I look forward to that.
