Short-term Sale on Local Girl!
For the sixth week in a row, I hope to provide you some accessible fun over our period of lockdown by dropping my book prices.
For five more days--through Saturday, May 2
--my contemporary romance, Local Girl, is available in e-book format for only 99 cents. (I'll continue to feature other books at sale prices in future weeks.)
Here is the summary of this contemporary romance:
Local Girl
Entrepreneur Edie Keegan achieves ever-growing acclaim for her popular Local Girl perfume. Her romantic life hasn’t been quite as successful, but that’s fine with her. As she insists to her matchmaking friend, Sara-Penny Butler, she’s not in the market for love. But Sara-Penny knows better, and she understands Edie and her painful past more than Edie realizes.
When Ben Walsh, the town veterinarian, turns Edie’s head, she questions whether love is worth the risk of getting hurt, whether Ben is the man for her (despite her cat allergies), and whether Sara-Penny is ever going to mind her own business.
The book can be purchased via the following button:
I hope you'll take advantage of this story while it's so readily available. And please remember to read about featured author, Linda Matchett, below, and subscribe and/or leave your answer to her question to be entered in the drawing for a free copy of her new release!

Linda Shenton Matchett and Free Books!
A secret mission…a fake bride…a run for their lives.
Before we chat with today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Dawn Kinzer's contemporary romance, By All Appearances, is:
pepsi324@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Linda Shenton Matchett, author of the historic romance novel, Spies & Sweethearts (Shortwave Press, April 2020).
Linda Shenton Matchett writes about ordinary people who did extraordinary things in days gone by. A volunteer docent and archivist for the Wright Museum of WWII, Linda is also a trustee for her local public library. She is a native of Baltimore, Maryland and was born a stone’s throw from Fort McHenry.
Linda has lived in historic places all her life, and is now located in central New Hampshire where her favorite activities include exploring historic sites and immersing herself in the imaginary worlds created by other authors.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
I took shooting lessons last year.
What fun! I took handgun lessons years ago (and never shot another one, but that's beside the point). It was a fun experience.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Spies & Sweethearts.
According to the OSS training manual, the life expectancy of a radio operator in Nazi-occupied France is six weeks. Partnered with one of the agency’s top spies, Gerard Lucas, newly-minted agent Emily Strealer plans to beat those odds. Then their cover is blown and all bets are off. The border to neutral Switzerland is three hundred miles away—a long way to run with SS soldiers on their heels.
Will Emily and Gerard survive the journey?
And what about their hearts? Nothing in the manual prepared them for falling in love.
What is it about Emily that will make your readers care about her?
Emily is the youngest of three sisters and as such, has always felt the need to prove herself. She tries to make good decisions, but often second guesses and compares herself to others. I think that many of us have “imposter syndrome,” and readers will be able to relate to her struggle with self-confidence.
What kind of brainstorming do you when beginning a new novel?
I am fascinated by the various jobs (paid and unpaid) women held during WWII, so the first thing I do is determine what my protagonist will do for a living. I have a list of jobs and women’s organizations that I created years ago when I first started writing about WWII. After figuring out my heroine’s job, I make a list of “what if” scenarios to see what sort of trouble I can subject her to. I also try to come up with an actual event that will impact her and her situation. The event may determine the setting, but if not, I brainstorm ideas as to what location makes the most sense for the story arc. The theme of second chances is often in my stories, so I also brainstorm past difficulties for my heroine.
That's an excellent path to follow in order to develop a compelling, conflict-riddled story. And you have the historic element to use as well. I love it.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I just read Barbara Britton’s Heavenly Lights: Noah's Journey (Daughters of Zelophehad Series). I fell in love with the main characters on the first page, and they have stayed with me long after finishing the book. Noah is a complex woman who I related to immediately, and Jeremiah, a deaf/mute, is a hero in every sense of the word. I laughed, cried, and sighed through the entire book. The story also made me examine my own faith.
What are you working on now?
I’m finishing The Widow & The War Correspondent, the third book in the Sisters in Service series. The story is about Emily’s oldest sister, Cora who is widowed when her husband is killed at Pearl Harbor.

--my contemporary romance, Miss Apprehension, is available in e-book format for only 99 cents. (I'll continue to feature other books at sale prices in future weeks.)
Here is the summary of this contemporary romance:
Miss Apprehension
The setting for Cherise Paul’s destination wedding couldn’t be more romantic. So why does she feel she’s being dragged down the aisle? She doesn’t plan to run away and become entangled with the famous young actor, Niles Adair, and his film crew, but circumstances unfold exactly that way.
When her fiancé, Jerry Gallagher, re-enters the scene, Cherise must decide: What does she want? What is she afraid of? What does she not understand? And who would have thought that Spanx could play such a pivotal role in one woman’s destiny?

I hope you'll take advantage of this story while it's so readily available. And please remember to read about featured author, Dawn Kinzer, below, and subscribe and/or leave your answer to her question to be entered in the drawing for a free copy of her new release!

Dawn Kinzer and Free Books!
An attractive special events planner from a wealthy family and a disfigured musician discover that situations and people are not always what they seem.

Congratulations! I'll email you for your snail mail address, and we'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! And now let's meet novelist Dawn Kinzer, author of the contemporary romance novel, By All Appearances (Morningview Publishing, November 2019).
Dawn Kinzer is a freelance editor, and her own work has been published in various devotionals and magazines. She co-hosts and writes for the Seriously Write blog.
Sarah’s Smile is the first book in her historical romance series, The Daughters of Riverton. Hope’s Design is the second, and Rebecca’s Song completes the trilogy. By All Appearances is her first contemporary romance.
A mother and grandmother, Dawn lives with her husband in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Favorite things include dark chocolate, good wine, strong coffee, the mountains, family time, and Masterpiece Theatre.
Wow, Dawn, your favorite things list could have come right out of my own mind!
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
When I was much younger, I wanted to be a medical missionary.
It's interesting how God takes our desires and tweaks them to serve His purposes.
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of By All Appearances.
Liana Tate, a special events planner, grew up in a high-profile family. No matter what she does, Liana feels she never measures up. She has the opportunity to prove herself by coordinating a fund raising gala for a large Seattle hospital. But an earthquake damages the venue, and Liana only has months to come up with a new plan and pull off the important event. At the same time, a handsome and successful architect steps into Liana’s life. She’s charmed by him, but she begins to wonder if appearances are deceiving.
Bryan Langley, a talented musician, was close to signing a recording contract when a barn fire left part of his face severely burned. He survived, but his career did not. Now he needs to find a new direction for his life.
When Liana’s father hires Bryan as a caretaker on the family estate outside of Seattle, Liana’s and Bryan’s lives become entangled. He risks public humiliation for Liana’s success, and she encourages him to use his musical gifts, despite his reluctance.
What is it about Liana and Bryan that will make your readers care about them?
Liana is a young woman who wants to prove herself, make her family proud, and find someone who will love her unconditionally. She struggles at times with body image—not because she’s overweight but because she compares herself to her sister who is a successful cover model. Her mother was also a highly-paid model, and now she runs her own agency. Liana has struggled with being a people pleaser, but she’s learning to be strong and true to herself. Despite her blunders, she does want the best for Bryan.
Bryan is kind. He’s sensitive to how people may view his scarred face—thinking more of them than himself. He works hard at making people comfortable around him. As a burn survivor, he shows great strength. His compassion is displayed through the relationships he has with other survivors in the hospital, especially the children. He’s very protective of Liana.
I would imagine your early interest in medical missionary work had an influence on Bryan's compassion when you wrote him.
What kind of brainstorming do you do when beginning a new novel?
I usually start with a location and a basic plot. Once I have a story idea, I flesh out the characters—their goals and challenges. I also begin researching various ideas to see if they’re feasible or make sense to include. What I discover often leads to more inspiration.
Just like life plans, our plot and character ideas often go where we hadn't foreseen!
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
The Letters, by C. Kevin Thompson is a well-written, fast-paced story that includes imperfect but likeable characters. With unexpected twists, The Letters is one of those rare novels that kept me in suspense until the very end. Despite having my own theories concerning mysterious messages that play an important role in the story, I was still surprised by answers revealed. I love stories that challenge us to consider the spiritual realm.
What are you working on now?
I’m currently working on a novella that will be included in a boxed set of new contemporary Christmas romances written by a team of authors. We plan to publish these stories in October 2020.

Here is the summary of this historical romance:
Unforgettable
Rachel Stanhope tries to see the good in everyone. But Josh Reegan tests even her good graces when they meet outside her Arlington, Virginia, dance studio in 1951. He's attractive, yet his cynicism and cockiness are hard to tolerate.
A journalist and former World War II Air Force pilot, Josh considers ballroom dancing a frivolous waste of time. Although Rachels confident nature is a refreshing challenge, he wouldn't tangle with her if his newspaper hadn't assigned him to cover her studios competitionin New York City.
Between the melodrama of ballroom antics and the real drama of political corruption, Rachel and Josh have their hands full. The last thing either of them expects is mutual need and support. But once they stop dancing around the truth, the results are unforgettable.

Dawn Klinge and Free Books!
When Ann meets Paul, an aspiring journalist with strong ideas of his own, she learns an unexpected lesson in courage and discovers what it really means to live her dreams.
Before we meet today's author, I want to announce that the winner of the free copy of Terri Wangard's historical novel, Roll Back the Clouds, is:
paulams49@...
Congratulations! We'll get your book right out to you. I encourage readers to keep commenting and/or subscribe at right (above my list of books) in order to learn about new releases! U.S. subscribers are entered in the drawings a second time when they comment.
And now let's meet novelist Dawn Klinge, author of the historical novel, Sorrento Girl (Genevieve Press, March 2020).
A graduate of the University of Idaho with a degree in elementary education, Dawn Klinge began writing online in 2005. She’s a Pacific Northwest native who loves a rainy day, a hot cup of coffee, and a good book to get lost in.
This wife and mom to two young adults is often inspired by true personal and historical accounts. Dawn is a member of the American Christian Fiction Writers Association.
Please tell us one random thing we might not know about you.
As soon-to-be empty nesters, my husband and I are learning new hobbies together that will take us into this different phase of life. Golf is our current challenge.
I'm not a golfer, but I know from experience that it's much more difficult than a lot of people realize!
Please tell us a bit more about the plot of Sorrento Girl.
It’s 1938, and Ann Brooks has big dreams of her new life as a Seattle College coed. She’s left the old-fashioned ways of her small country town behind to pursue higher education and a teaching career.
But not everyone is ready for change.
Society still preaches that a woman’s place is in the home. Some refuse to see Ann as an equal deserving of an education — let alone a career — and Ann's friends think school is simply a springboard to pursue a marriage of wealth and convenience.
When Ann meets Paul, an aspiring journalist with strong ideas of his own, she learns an unexpected lesson in courage and discovers what it really means to live her dreams.
Will Ann give up everything she thought she wanted for love? Or can she have it all?
What is it about Ann that will make your readers care about her?
Ann is a young woman with an adventurous spirit who was raised by a loving single-father who encourages her to pursue her dreams. Without a mother, Ann looks to women like Amelia Earhart and her aunt Rose as examples for the kind of woman she wants to be. She admires their courage.
When Ann is confronted with a situation that requires speaking up for herself, her courage is tested. This dilemma is one I believe many women will relate to.
Getting on the other side of those challenges is often life changing!
What kind of brainstorming do you when beginning a new novel?
I start reading historical accounts of the time and place I want to write about. I listen to the music, I look at art, fashion, and architecture. I immerse myself in research until an idea hits, and then I run with it.
I haven't written a lot of historical fiction, but I have respect for writers of that genre. It requires yet another level of knowledge beyond writing contemporary stories.
What is the last novel you read that you would recommend?
I just finished reading The Orphan Beach, by Laura Thomas. I recommend this romantic suspense because it was one that transported me to its wonderful settings in Oregon and Mexico, I loved the characters, it kept me turning the pages in excitement, and it had a beautiful message of faith.
What are you working on now?
I’m working on edits for a historical romance set in 1890s Chicago called Palmer Girl. It will be published in the Fall of 2020.

Short-term Sale on Two More of My Novels!
For the third week in a row, I hope to provide you some accessible fun over our period of lockdown. I'm dropping my book prices. For just four more days--through Friday, April 10--both The Perfect Blend and Tea for Two are available in e-book format for only 99 cents each. (I'll continue to feature other books at sale prices next week.)
Here is the summary of each of these romantic comedies:
The Perfect Blend
If you enjoy the novels of Debbie Macomber, you’ll love this perfect blend of recipes and romance set in a small town with a big heart.
Steph Vandergrift is in need of a job. She left everything behind to elope with Middleburg attorney Rick Manfred, never imagining he would stand her up at the altar. Now, hoping just to get by until she can decide what to do next, Steph thinks she’s found the perfect position at the local tea shop.
Kendall James, one of the kindest and most eligible bachelors in the area, meets Steph and proceeds to pursue her. But by the time Steph feels able to consider dating again, her runaway fiancé returns and tries to win her back. Steph is wary, but she and Rick always seemed to blend so well. Are they truly meant to be together, or does God have something else in mind?
The book can be purchased via the following button:
Tea for Two
Counselor Tina Milano has been visiting Milly's Tea Shop regularly for the past several months. She has many friends but no steady man in her life. Zack Cooper is a local farmer who provides Milly with fresh fruit and vegetables. As a single parent, Zack is doing his best to raise his teenage son and daughter on his own.
When the kids get in minor scrapes with the law, Milly gently encourages Zack and Tina to work together to draw the teens back before their rebellious natures land them in even hotter water. At first Tina sees the relationship in only a professional capacity, but soon her friends notice the luscious scent of romance in the air and decide to help things along.
Tea for Two is a faith-filled novel that explores the delight of second chances, warm friendship, and unexpected romantic encounters.
The book can be purchased via the following button:
I hope you'll take advantage of these stories while they're so readily available. And please remember to read about featured author, Terri Wangard, and subscribe and/or leave your answer to her question to be entered in the drawing for a free copy of her new release!
